'Cities of Glass' is a manifestation and series of exhibitions about the synergy and cross-fertilization between Dutch, Bohemian and Venetian glass art and glass blowing techniques. Naturally everything takes place in the glass city of Leerdam and surroundings.

The objects resulting from this special collaboration will be in KunstFort Asperen from 8 July. There are also three exhibitions in the National Glass Museum as part of the glass event. During 'Cities of Glass' there are also many public activities, such as glass-blowing demonstrations, glass workshops and symposia.

KunstFort Asperen

KunstFort Asperen is a tower fort. This type of tower fort was mainly built in the New Dutch Water Line between 1840 and 1860.  From 1986 the Foundation organizes almost every year a program for cultural activities and manifestations, which are mainly devoted to contemporary art, but also to the history of the fort and the landscape of the Linge. The fort is not open to the public outside the summer months. Then there is a protected colony of bats that hibernate there. The fort is an ideal winter residence for the beard, water, great-ear and dwarf bats, because of the darkness, the constant low temperature, the high humidity and little draft. There they find an oasis of peace that is hidden from us behind a mass of stone and clay.
