Mexico comes to Sunderland as flamboyant artists launch National Glass Centre’s major summer show

Artists Petr Stanický, Richard Meitner and the De La Torre Brothers have each been given space at National Glass Centre to present a 'solo show'. The result is three exhibitions presenting great contrast in terms of glass making technique, artistic approach and cultural influence.

The De La Torre Brother's work ranges from hot glass to lenticular printing. Their influences include traditional Mexican folk art, popular culture, art history and their Catholic upbringing. The exhibition was curated by Jeroen Maes, Artistic Director at GlazenHuis, the Flemish Centre for Contemporary Glass Art. It was originally shown at GLazenHuis during the summer of 2013 and has been revised by Jeroen Maes for National Glass Centre.

National Glass Centre

National Glass Centre at the University of Sunderland is a cultural attraction and venue with a difference. With glass at the heart of everything we do, we celebrate Sunderland’s glass making heritage and explore the creative potential of this extraordinary material. The Centre is dedicated to create opportunities for everyone to have a go and be involved in arts and culture.
